Author Guidelines
1. Academic papers are substantial submissions (approx. 6000 words). Reported developments or recommendations should be grounded in a sound conceptual or theoretical rationale and be supported by robust evidence justifying the conclusions drawn. Authors will be encouraged to make use of the opportunities afforded by an on-line journal in terms of presentation of results, or illustrations of method or techniques. For example, links to other materials and sites or the inclusion of video, sound and other images.
2. Articles which appear in ELiSS are subject to the usual academic processes of anonymous peer reviewing. Papers written by members of the Editorial Board will be refereed by independent referees.
3. Practice Papers and Reports are generally shorter than articles (approx. 2000-3000 words). These may include reports of interesting current practice or developments, or the results from less substantial surveys or investigations. Inclusion of empirical evidence is still encouraged, but this may be illustrative in nature rather than meeting the more stringent requirement for robust evidence for an article.
4. The first page of the manuscript should include a brief title and the author's name, affiliation, address, telephone and fax numbers and email address. A short biography of the author (about 75 words) should also be included. In the case of co-authors, the same details should also be included. All correspondence will be sent to the first named author, unless otherwise indicated.
5. The second page should contain the title of the paper/presentation, an abstract, outlining the aims and subject matter of not more than 100 words in length, and up to six key words. Key words are used to tag submissions on the web site.
6. The paper should begin on the third page and should not subsequently reveal the title or authors. The paper should be sub-divided into headed sections.
7. Footnotes and endnotes should be avoided as far as possible.
8. The references and bibliography should use the Harvard system.
9. The submission preparation checklist must be included.
Submission Preparation Checklist (All items required)
A statement confirming the submission has not been previously published nor is it before another journal for consideration. Simultaneous submissions to other print or electronic journals are not permitted.
The submission file is in Microsoft Word or RTF document file format. It will normally be published in pdf format. Video submissions will use an appropriate format (recommended format is WMV) and can be linked to host servers.
All URL addresses in the text (e.g., http://pkp.ubc.ca) are activated and ready to click.
A statement to show that written permission has been given by respondents in video or other media representations is required. ELiSS does not take responsibility for obtaining such permissions and will only publish work if a clear statement that confirmation from all individuals has been obtained.
